Purpose of the Church
What is the purpose of the Church? Why does it exist?
Just before our Lord returned to heaven, He told His Church what He wanted them to do. In Matthew 28:18 20 we read, "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (i.e. disciple) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.'' (KJV)
The Church should tell the lost the Gospel and encourage them to trust in Jesus. The Church is to take the Good News of what Jesus did to the entire world. The Church should baptize only those who have accepted Christ as Savior. The Church should teach believers how to obey Jesus.
And every Christian should be a member of a local Church that is actively doing these things.
