Another source of comfort in trouble is to remember that God suffers with us. When a young child is sick, his mother feels the pain of that child because of her love. God loves us in much the same way. He hurts when we hurt. He feels our pain. He understands our torment. Our God is not an impersonal unfeeling being.
Because Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, He has experienced pain like what we experience. The writer of Hebrews states, "For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted.'' (Hebrews 2:18)
Isaiah in speaking of Jesus said, "He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.'' (Isaiah 53:3)
This is what God has experienced. He understands what it is like to suffer. He cares about us.
